The girl’s varsity varsity tennis team defeated North Olmsted with a strong 4-1 win.
Junior, Gabby Gosciewski was the first off the courts at second singles. Gosciewski lead the entire match and never let up on her game. The consistent hitting lefty had some terrific cross court winners and angles at the net to keep her opponent on the run. She cranked up a few aces, too and brought in an impressive 6-2, 6-0- win.
Senior, Disha Rathod had a power hitting tough opponent at first singles who is ranked second in the league. Rathod rallied and served strong throughout the match and gave it her all, but North Olmsted got the 6-1, 6-1 win on court number one.
The second doubles team of Sammie Gaba and Emma Barnard brought home another exciting win. The team kept their opponents on the run and dominated at the net with winners and consistently moving to attack the ball. The southpaw/right-hander duo has proven to be a winning combination as the Bulldogs won the match 6-3. 6-2
At first doubles, co-captains Ally Leither and Madison Sherman won with impressive teamwork. Both stepped it up when the other couldn’t get to the ball and it made for a great match. Both Leither and Sherman scored several aces and set the tone at the start by staying ahead in the match from the beginning. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4
Last off the courts was sophomore, Ellie Goetz. It was a close 7-5 come from behind win in the first set for Goetz, but she dropped the second set 3-6. Since the team match had already been decided, only a 10 point tie-breaker was needed to complete this match on court three.. Goetz ran down several wide shots and used her strong serve to take the lead from the first point and went on to win 10-5. Goetz has a great record with tie- breakers this season and is undefeated, 3-0. The team overall is 5-0 in tie-breakers this season as well. The final match score for Goetz was 7-5, 3-6, 10-5
The team is away on Thursday and takes on Berea-Midpark for their final conference match this season. The first day of the SWC tournament begins on Tuesday at Avon Lake. Matches begin at 2:00pm.
The JV team also won with a 3-2 win over the Eagles. The Bulldogs got wins at second singles from Mikayla Ortiz and at first doubles from Kate Barrett and Lexi McNamra. The match was now tied. The big team win came after a long well played match by junior, Jackie Ruther and her third singles win. The JV team will host Berea-Midpark on Thursday and then head to Avon Lake Saturday morning for their conference tournament.
