The boy’s varsity tennis team got their season off to a great start with a strong 5-0 win against Normandy today. At the top of the lineup was co-captain Marco Grgurevic bringing in a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles. Grgurevic in his fourth year on the varsity team, lead the entire match and never looked back.
The remaining courts all won with impressive “double bagels” across the board. Starting off on the singles courts, at second singles and third singles respectively, Nathan Mader and Evan Toth mixed up the points and kept their opponents on the run. Each earned big 6-0, 6-0 wins for the team.
At first doubles it was returning letterman, Adam Mader with a newcomer to varsity, Adam Kwan. Kwan played jv doubles and jv singles for the Bulldogs last season. Mader’s rocket serves and Kwan’s net play earned the Bulldog duo an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win.
Moving up from jv doubles from last season to second doubles varsity this season were John McNea and Jonathan Gaba. Both McNea and Gaba not only had strong serves, but took control at the net to prove they were worthy of varsity time this season. It was a quick 6-0, 6-0 win for the netters.
The jv team also brought in wins from Jon Hubeny, Kyle Kruichuk, Avi Rathod and Sam Vallejo.
The teams look to extend their winning with matches on Wednesday against Avon. The varsity travels to Avon and the jv team will host at home. Come out and cheer the teams on!
