Meet Recap

The Bulldogs continued their winning ways with a 166-171 win over Midview at Brentwood Golf Course on Monday. The match was rescheduled from last Thursday due to weather. Leading the way for the team was Ryan Higginbotham with a 38. Higginbotham’s steady play has been a key for the Bulldogs the last few weeks as the team has been without Logan Brastch, who is out with an injury. Luke Andrus and Gavin Dietrich each carded a 42, and rounding out the scores were Joe Bertrand and Mally Kilbane , each shooting a 44. The team is unbeaten with a 7-0 record in the conference.

On Saturday the Bulldogs played in the Norwalk Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Course. The team finished with a score of 340, placing 5th out of the 17 teams in the event. Higginbotham was low man with an 82. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Joe Bertrand (83), Mally Kilbane (84), and Michael Fritz (91). Finishing ahead of the Bulldogs were Galion (322), Amherst (335), Norwalk (337), and Clyde (339).

Today, the Bulldogs have a match at Sweetbriar against Avon Lake. The Shoremen are also undefeated so it a huge match for both teams. Good luck, golfers!

Bulldogs Rally Late Past Southview Cougars 2-1

Watters Hits Game Winner With 4:15 Left After Ortiz Ties Game

Your Olmsted Falls Bulldogs Men’s soccer team traded blows with Sylvania Southview in a bareknuckle battle on the pitch Saturday afternoon and prevailed 2-1 on a clutch 76th minute goal by senior halfback Charlie Watters.

Senior halfback Mark Ortiz evened the match at the 70th minute with a tracer shot goal from 15 yards out in a wild but bruising 2nd half of Futbol. Senior Shelby Edwards turned away a last second shot by the Cougars to grab his 6th win of the season on 5 saves. The Bulldog defense showed toughness and speed turning away most the Cougar counters.

The visiting Sylvania Cougars brought a full contact style of play to the OFMS Soccer Complex and nearly took home a win on sunny, blustery afternoon match. The Dogs matched the Cougars blow for blow in a match marred by four yellows for the Cougars and numerous heavy collisions between players on both teams. The Sylvania defense withstood numerous quality shots and deep high-quality runs by the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs defense delivered their usual vise grip coverage and kept the ball delivered up to the offense most of the afternoon.

The game started out promising for the Dogs with senior Ryan Kolonick hitting a left footed shot deflected over the bar 7 minutes into the match after probing the Cougar defense with long balls early on. Senior Kevin Lemin shot high on fast break and had two other shots stopped by the Cougar GK as the Dogs bored in the first 20 minutes of the half. Junior Brandon Chapman took a short free kick and forced a fine save by the Sylvania keeper. The game got rougher as the Cougars tried to slow down the Bulldogs attack. After two corner kicks, the Cougars scored on a free kick as the ball deflected off of the wall and found its way into the net. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the half.

The 2nd half found the Dogs firing away on offense and absorbing more body shots from the Cougars as they dropped back nine players and tried to hang on their one goal margin. After another yellow card restart around the 40, senior back Chase Fernkorn played a perfect pass into a charging Mark Ortiz. Ortiz let a rocket shot fly as a defender converged and found the net as Bulldog Nation went wild.

Reenergized, the Bulldogs kept attacking as senior forwards Rylan Wikle and Kolonick made repeated runs into the Sylvania box and delivered high quality crosses that somehow stayed out of the net. The Bulldogs went long ball however to gain the game winner in this grueling match. Kevin Lemin grabbed a pass near midfield and lofted a 50 yard floating pass as four Bulldogs charged the net. Watters settled the pass in the box with his left foot and popped in the goal ahead score with just over 4 minutes remaining. The Dogs survived a last second corner kick to improve the record to 6-1 on the year.

The Bulldogs hit the road this Wednesday for the grass pitch of Amherst High School in another important SWC battle as the Dogs seek to hold on to second place in the SWC, 1 point behind Berea Midpark.

Let’s get Bulldogs Nation out in force to support our Dogs!

Bulldogs Set Down North Ridgeville Rangers 2-0

Kasputis And Chapman Bring The Dogs Home With 1st Half Scores

The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs used a suffocating defense and two key 1st half goals from senior Sam Kasputis and junior Brandon Chapman to win another bruising SWC match on the soggy home pitch. Senior net minder Shelby Edwards earned his 5th shutout on an uneventful night in goal.

The Bulldogs struck within 4 minutes as Senior Captain Ryan Kolonick started a fast break toward the Ranger net. Kolonick fed senior Kevin Lemin who found senior Sam Kasputis in the slot with a header pass. Kasputis punched in a right footer and the Dogs led 1-0.

The Bulldogs started an evening long assault on the Ranger defense and in typical SWC style, the Rangers fought off almost every shot. The Rangers fell back into a defensive stance of nine man fronts within 10 minutes of the opening whistle as seniors Rylan Wikle and Danny Cleary made strong runs all night.

Wikle almost chipped the GK and nearly scored on a pass from Lemin as the Bulldogs put heavy pressure on the Rangers. Senior halfback Charley Watter drew a yellow card on crushing tackle and the free kick by Kolonick was almost knocked in by Cleary.

Senior Mark Ortiz made a fine run and fed a dandy pass to Cleary just turned aside by the Rangers. With 4 minutes left in the half Watters sent a crisp diagonal ball into box for Chapman. The junior midfielder settled the ball with his body and ripped a right footer by the keeper for a 2-0 halftime lead.

The 2nd half was all Bulldogs as the Bulldog defense of All SWC seniors Chase, Mark Ortiz, Joe Bement along with juniors Alex Kleck and Noah Le did not allow a shot on goal by the Rangers for the entire game. The defense played a large part on the almost constant offensive pressure from the Bulldogs. The game was halted with 6:57 remaining for lightning.

Your 5-1 Bulldogs host the first ever meeting with Slyvania Southview this Sat 3pm at the home turf of Olmsted Falls Middle.
