Bulldogs Drop Eagles 8-5 For 3rd Straight Win
By, Chip Lemin
Junior Logan Bratsch and Sophomore Grendzynski pitched the Bulldogs to a key win over the North Olmsted Eagles.
The Bulldogs scored in 4 of 7 innings to put down a scrappy North Olmsted squad and win their 3rd straight SWC game. The teams combined for 13 runs and 23 base hits but the Dogs scored late again and have found some late inning confidence crucial to their recent success.
While Bratsch and Grendzynski scattered hits, and worked around several jams, the Bulldogs found important offense from several players to knock out another longtime nemesis North Olmsted.
Junior Brian Eiseman, in his 1st SWC start behind the plate, went 3 for 3, with a double, scored two runs, and knocked in a run.
Junior Nate Causey doubled for the 3rd straight game, driving in fellow junior Sully Kilbane (2 hits). Sophomores Braden Glaska and Jack Spellacy wreaked havoc in the Eagle staff combining for 5 RBI, 4 runs scored and 2 big extra base hits, with Spellacy delivering a damaging 2 run double in the 6th that plated Glaska and Eiseman and put the Dogs up 8-5.
Junior Logan Bratsch had his 2nd straight strong outing pitching into the 5th before giving way to Teddy Grendzynski. Grendzynski and Bratsch both worked around multiple baserunners, but got the big outs when it mattered. Grendzynski buckled down and fanned last two hitters to send the Bulldogs to the bus victors in their last three games.
The (5-4, 4-3 in SWC) Dogs have a full plate of games coming up. A non-conference double-header with Twinsburg this Saturday at home, then four straight SWC games vs Avon, Berea, Westlake and Lakewood. These games will determine if the Dogs are pretenders or contenders for the coveted SWC crown.
Donât miss watching this gritty team, they keep games close, and have shown an ability to score late, a key ingredient for consistent winning.
Letâs Go Bulldogs!
