We caught up with Lillie prior to her practice leading up to the State Meet:

How did you feel when you crossed the finish line in 18th place and qualified for the State Tournament, the first female state qualifier since 2003?

I was so happy I could not wait to see my parents and my family members.  I was very relieved because it was a stressful race.  I was also looking for my teammates. The race was kind of stressful because at the one-mile mark I was in 80th place.  After that, I knew I had to get going.  I needed my pace in the first mile and a better pace to finish the race.  I looked for some girls that I know from previous races and I had to stay with them.

What have been your preparations like this week?

My focus this week has been getting out faster and staying with the packs of the girls.  This has been a laid back week but not training for distance.  It has been very cool that I have had my teammates with me this week for the runs.

How has the team, coaches, and your family supported you throughout the season?

My family has supported me no matter what.  We have had goals all season and my coaches helped me get to where I want to go.  I am fortunate to have such a great support team behind me.

As a member of the swim team, how has this helped you and your training?

This is really helping me with my endurance.  My swim coach has encouraged me to do both and while the practices have been tough, the results have been great.

How do you feel going into Saturday’s competition?

I feel like there is less stress this week.  Now that I made the state tournament, I feel good and I am more prepared for this week and I am ready for the race.

Great Job Lillie!  Have a terrific week and Good Luck on Saturday!
