Olmsted Falls High School
Bulldogs Shut Down Shoremen 3-0 In District Semi-Finals
Defense Pitches Another Shutout As Bement, Kolonick and Lemin Ring the Bell
The Olmsted Falls Bulldog senior class went out with a victory in their final home game at Olmsted Falls Middle School Soccer Complex with a convincing 3-0 win over the 5th seeded Avon Lake Shoremen. Senior Shelby Edwards notched his 17th win and 14th shutout of the season by making five saves, one a sparkling variety late in the match to preserve his clean sheet in a typical fouled filled SWC match.
Senior co-captains Kevin Lemin and Ryan Kolonick led the way on offense, each scoring a goal and assisting each other to compliment a goal and assist by Joe Bement and Chase Fernkorn respectively. The Bulldog defense faced a hard nose and valiant young squad from Avon Lake and kept the ball out of the net for the 14th time.
The Bulldogs struck 12 minutes into the game after sparring at midfield and defending some long passes from the Eagles, when Chase Fernkorn lined up a free kick after a Shoremen foul. Fernkorn sent a high arcing freekick into the mixer and when the Avon Lake GK did not secure the ball, senior midfielder pounced on the rock and drove it home for the 1-0 lead.
A few minutes later after fending off intense pressure from the Dogs, senior forward Kevin Lemin drove the left and crossed it to fellow co-captain Ryan Kolonick. Kolonick ripped in a left footer much to pleasure of Bulldog Nation and the Dogs went into halftime up 2-0.
Shelby Edwards sent a long accurate punt downfield to Ryan Kolonick and in stride Kolonick found Lemin on the 8-yard line. Lemin beat the goalie to the ball and powered the ball into the net for an unsurmountable 3-0 Bulldog lead. The Dogs handed the keys to the defense and they drove the rest of the way home for a record setting 17th victory and a chance to claim another Cleveland District Title this Saturday 7pm at North Ridgeville High School versus the Avon Eagles. The defense blanked their opponents for the 15th time this season, another club mark.
Bulldog Nation faithful, come to North Ridgeville in force this Saturday and witness another bare-knuckle battle between two talented clubs in District Final action at 7pm.
Letâs hear it for the Dogs! Go Bulldogs! We Play For The Badge!
