Bulldogs Slip And Slide Past North Olmsted Eagles 1-0 On Senior Night
Kolonick 1st Half Goal Holds Up as Bulldogs Post 13th Shutout of 2017
The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs won their final regular season game 1-0 over the North Olmsted Eagles in a muddy SWC showdown against a determined cross-town rival with a red-hot goalkeeper.
This group of seniors came through again using whatever means necessary in a hotly disputed match controlled by the Bulldogs offense that couldnât put the match away until the final whistle at 80 minutes. The stonewall defense posted another shutout for senior GK Shelby Edwards who guided the backline to safety in very slippery conditions.
Senior captain Ryan Kolonick delivered a left footed shot just inside the far post from 13 yards out after he corralled a rebounded shot block. He settled the ball sliced in a shot only six minutes into the match. The Bulldogs used fast breaks and long through balls all night to keep the Eagle GK playing his best. The Eagle net minder stopped six quality chances for the Dogs in the first half alone in addition to senior Kevin Lemin hitting the crossbar 13 minutes into the match.
After the half, the Dogs went right back to work with senior Sam Kasputis providing spark off the bench. Rylan Wikle showed good balance in the mud and created several good chances along with strong runs out the back from senior halfbacks Chase Fernkorn and Mark Ortiz. The Eagles occasionally countered effectively from between the 20 yd lines but then junior stopper Alex Kleck and junior mid Noah would steer the Eagles outside into the speed zone for Fernkorn and Ortiz to run down.
The Bulldogs missed several chances in the last 10 minutes to put the match out of reach and the big crowd on hand watched the Eagles hold off a barrage of corner kicks to end the match with a 1-0 victory on the 2017 Senior Night Game. Hats off to a grueling match by both clubs in slippery late season conditions.
The Bulldogs improve to 14-1 on the season and travel to St. Edwards High School to battle the Eagles in the regular season finale. Plan on traveling out to support your SWC Champion Bulldogs this Saturday at 7pm.
