Bulldogs Cool Off Comets 4-Nil
Wikle Nets Two Goals, Assist, Kolonick Two Assists, As Dogs Roll
Your Olmsted Falls Menâs soccer team used a powerful offense and a suffocating defensive scheme to bring down a strong and physical Solon Comets team 4-0 on the season opening game of 2017 season at OFMS on a perfect night for soccer.
Senior Ryan Kolonick had two assists and loosen up defensive seams so fellow players would find opportunities as well. Senior net minder Shelby Edwards pick up a shutout with 4 saves in his 1st varsity start.
Rylan Wikle notched two goals on the evening, and fed senior Joe Bement on a sweet arching corner kick volleyed in by Bement with a right foot to start the scoring for the Dogs.
Senior Chase Fernkorn and Junior Alex Kleck kept the back line organized against the speedy and technically sound attack of Solon.
After stopping a Comet counter, the Dogs broke out on their own counter attack. Senior Kevin Lemin carried the ball deep to the left side of the box and slid a nifty pass to Wikle who rang the bell for a 2-0 Bulldog lead midway through the first half.
The Bulldogs held their own in an increasing physical game and owned a 10 to two advantage in corner kicks. The Comets came out with more energy in 2nd half and almost converted a defensive mistake by the Dogs early in 2nd half. The pace of play by the Bulldogs began to wear down the Comets and in a scramble after a corner kick, Kolonick lofted a ball near the Comet GK and Lemin out jumped the keeper to head the ball in for a 3-0 lead. Kolonick later found Wikle around the seven-yard line with a slotted ball and Wikle popped in a right footer for his 2nd goal and the final margin of 4-0 Olmsted Falls in the first meeting of the two schools.
Thanks for all the support from Bulldog Nation to make this a night to remember for Bulldog Soccer!
