Amherst Steele High School
Olmsted Falls High School
The boys varsity tennis team moved to 2-1 on the season with a 3-2 win against Amherst. The Bulldogs cleaned up at the singles positions with every singles match going to the home team. First off the courts was jr. co-captain, Jon Kopp with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles. Kopp kept his opponent off balance by mixing up his game with power and spin and kept control throughout his match.
Next up was sophomore, Marco Grgurevic and his strong straight set win at first singles. Grgurevic kept his opponent on the run and lead the entire match. The final match score was 6-2, 6-4.
The final singles win came from Joe Bertrand at second singles. The junior co-captain dropped the first set 2-6, but came back stronger with each game. By the third set, Bertrand had found his stride and controlled that final set to win his match 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. That was the win that put the match away for the Bulldogs.
In doubles action, both doubles teams gave it a run, but struggled with unforced errors and lost in straight sets. It was Justin Leung and Nathan Mader at first doubles with a 6-3. 6-1 loss. Paired at second doubles were John Ewida and Kevin Kruichuk with a tough 6-0, 6-0 loss.
The team heads to Berea-Midpark on Wednesday for another conference match. Go Bulldogs!!
