Medina High School
Olmsted Falls High School
Bees End Season For Bulldogs 4-0 In Regional Semi-Final
The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs ended their undefeated season with a 4-0 loss to the Medina Bees in the Region Two Semi-Final match at Nordonia High School on a warm Wednesday evening. The Bees cashed in early on a PK for a handball violation in the Olmsted Falls defensive box and took the momentum of the match four minutes in to the match.
The Bees controlled play at midfield and prevented the Bulldogs from developing many productive counters. The flanking runs by Medina caused problems for Olmsted Falls defenders and led to multiple corner kicks for the Bees. The Bees used a short corner kick and header for a goal by Justin Libertowski on a sharp looking set piece.
The Dogs countered but didnât find enough passing lanes to prevent another flanking run by the Bees. When the Dogs cleared the ball the Bees picked up another corner kick and using a short corner formation sent a rifled pass through the box for another header goal by Libertowski and the Bees led 3-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half.
The Bulldogs led by Ryan Kolonick got a good look in the Bee defensive end but didnât finish as the half ended at 3-0 Medina.
The 2nd half found Medina laying back somewhat and picking up counter opportunities when the Dogs overplayed the offensive end. The Dogs got a good look at the net but went high and wide around the 15 minute. Kolonick made several hard charging runs and passes to create chances but the Bees had too much meat in the box and cleared the ball.
The Bulldogs fought hard to the final whistle leaving nothing on the field and ended the season 16-1-3, the best mark by any Bulldog soccer team in team history. The team again broke numerous team records and advanced to the Regional playoffs for only the 2nd time in school history.
The team returns eight seniors next season and looks to start another deep playoff run again. Thanks to all the fans of Bulldog Nation and the rest of the energetic Student Section who supported our Bulldogs every game. You all Rock!
Farewell to our awesome senior players and the leadership they provided all year on and off the field. Bulldog Nation thanks all of you and wishes you the best in the future. High school sports have a tough ending for almost every team, but this has been a season to remember!
