The girl’s varsity team came close to shutting down the North Olmsted Eagles Monday afternoon, but fell short and lost a close match 2-3.
The first win of the match came at third singles with sophomore Madison Sherman taking the match to 3 sets. After winning the first set, Sherman lost a close second set, but came back strong in the 3rd with her long rallies and impressive cross court angles. . She lead from the start and kept control of the set. The final match score was 6-1,4 -6, 6-3.
The second doubles team of freshmen, Aly Leither and Gabby Gosciewski also ran their match to three sets. It was a constant exchange of the lead in the first two sets when each team was up a game and then falling behind. The first set was won by North Olmsted 7-5 and the Bulldogs took the second set by the exact 7-5 score. That was all it took for the duo to get their “A” game rolling. They picked up pace as well as their serves in the final set and commanded the lead until the final decisive game. They won the set 6-1. The final match score was 5-7, 7-5, 6-1.
Disha Rathod lost at first singles with a match score of 6-0, 6-0. Abby Gaba lost at 2nd singles 6-3, 6-0 and first doubles, Sami Ladina and Elena Garcia also ell short with a 6-0, 6-0 score.
The team is on the road this week with matches at Lakewood, Avon and Avon Lake on Saturday for the start of the SWC Conference Tournament.
