The girl’s varsity tennis team continued their win streak by defeating Fairview today at home with a 4-1 match score. This is the 4th win in a row for the team as they bring their record to 4-2.
At first singles, Disha Rathod lead in the first, but started to fall behind at 6-6 and was forced to play a tie-breaker for the set. Rathod won some key points in the tie-breaker and used placement and power to earn the win at 7-6 (7-5) Rathod followed up with a close second set and won that 7-5 as well.
Madison Sherman was played with great consistency at third singles and never let her opponent get ahead of her in the match. Sherman lead the entire mach by running her opponent from corner to corner and outplaying her at every step, The final match score for Sherman was 6-0, 6-2.
The second doubles team of Aly Leither and Gabby Gosciewski added another strong win to their season with a 6-1, 6-4 win at second doubles. Both girls controlled the match with their strong serves that were well placed going down the middle and out wide to attack their opponent’s weaknesses. They fell behind a game in the second set, but quickly regained their composure and lead and took the final set 6-4. This is the fourth straight win for the duo and it brings their record to 5-1.
Abby Gaba lost a hard fought match at second singles tonight. Gaba was battling a bug, but continued to run her opponent out of position and punishing her with her spot on serves and as well as powerful ground strokes from the baseline. Gaba lost her match 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. This brings Gaba’s record to 5-1 on the season.
The team hosts two big conference matches this week with Avon Lake on Wednesday and Westlake on Thursday.
