Bulldogs Grab 2-1 Walk- Off Win Over Titans On Causey’s Gem
Sophomore southpaw Nate Causey went 7 seven strong innings and induced a 7th inning double play to set the stage for a walk-off sac fly by senior Aaron Zawadski as the Bulldogs edged the Titans 2-1 in the old ball yard at Olmsted Falls High School Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs have won 9 of their last 12 games.
Causey scattered 5 hits, struck out 3 batters, 0 ER and allowed only one free pass as the Bulldogs defeated the Titans for the 2nd time this season by the same score, 2-1.
Charlie Broski and Aiden Kelly paced the Dogs with 2 hits each and Senior Lukas Banhidy knocked in Aaron Zawadski in the 1st inning with a single.
That run put the Dogs on top until the 6th inning as Causey held the Titans off the scoreboard. The lefty used a pick off at 2nd base and a strikeout to quell a possible scoring threat in the 2nd inning and worked around a double in the 4th.
In the 6th, Causey took care of business via swinging strikeout with a runner on 3rd and the score tied 1-1. In the 7th inning after a 1 out single, the staff stayed with the sophomore on the hill. Causey coaxed a 4-6-3 double play grounder to end the inning and set the stage for the walk off heroics.
Senior Matt (Arch) Archual put the rally into gear with a leadoff single and after two pick off attempts raced to 2nd on a single by junior Ricky Castrigano. Senior Charlie Broski re-entered the game for Isaac Rivera and bunted his way on base to juice the bases for Zawadzki.
On the 3rd pitch of the at bat Zawadzki hit a deep fly ball to center and sent Archual home with the game winning run and the Dogs to another SWC win.
The Dogs got right back on track after a tough loss to Avon Lake Tuesday. There’s little time to savor any win or lament any losses in the high school baseball season as there is another game almost every day.
Thursday the Dogs take on 1st place Midview, who is in a three-way tie for the SWC lead with Westlake and Avon. The Bulldogs are just 1 game back with 4 SWC games to go.
The Dogs continue to stay focused and winning close games, and with playoffs closing in, that’s a good mindset for the team….Go Bulldogs!
