Bulldogs Bring Down Bombers 4-0 For 5th Straight Shutout

Defense Dominates Again as Wikle and Lemin Bag Score in 11th Win

The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs endured a bruising battle with the Kenston Bombers on the turf of Kenston High School for their 8th straight victory behind another stellar defensive performance and two goals each from seniors Rylan Wikle and Kevin Lemin. The 4-0 win is the fifth straight blank sheet turned in by the defense and senior GK Shelby Edwards on brisk night out east. The Dogs won the 2nd game of their three-game road swing in convincing fashion.

A plucky Kenston Bomber squad played collision Futbol as the Dogs took offensive control early on and used jarring tackles as a possible antidote to the speed of the Bulldog offense. Using a familiar formula of high top side pressure from the Bulldog back line, and searing runs through the opponent offensive third, the Dogs greeted the Bombers with a run into the box in the opening minute of the match.

Winning nearly every 50/50 and putting body on body, the quick pitch of Bomber stadium, allowed precision passing, with senior Dan Cleary nearly connecting on a Lemin cross 8 minutes into the match. Lemin later found Wikle with a pretty cross and Wikle found the net with a right foot for a 1-0 Dog lead. The defense stopped almost every counter allowing four routine shots on goal, and used runs from senior defenders Chase Fernkorn and Mark Ortiz to break down the Bombers midfield. Stopper Alex Kleck and Noah Le switched the field from the back allowing room for midfielders to find big seams in the Bomber defense. Wikle found Lemin right down the middle with a pass and Lemin beat the GK with a knuckling shot from 17 yards for a 2-0 lead 32 minutes into the 2nd half.

Lemin put the match in doubt for the Bombers on the 2nd half kickoff when ran past the defenders and scored unassisted. The game took a new level of physicality after the 3-0 lead as Kenston had trouble matching up with the speed of the Dog offense. Junior Brandon Chapman used a fine through ball and almost put connected with Wikle. Freshman Allistar White and senior Sam Kasputis provided spark off the bench with good offensive passing and defensive pressure up high. Kenston stopped a PK attempt by Lemin and as game ticked on started mashing some tackles on the Dogs. The Bulldogs see this strategy almost every game and put the 4th goal of game in the net with a nifty pass from Charlie Watters to Kolonick who fed Wikle deep in the box off the left post.

The 11-1 Bulldogs head west to Avon Lake this Wednesday at 7pm seeking to clinch their 2nd straight SWC crown with a win over a talented Shoreman team that has played Olmsted Falls very tough over the last three seasons.

Let’s get a large crowd of Bulldog Faithful will help bring home the title in 2017.
