Bulldogs Outlast Mustangs 2-1 In OT For District Crown

Senior Cam Robinson struck the game winner with 4:32 left in the 2nd OT and sends the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs to Regionals with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Strongsville Mustangs. The Bulldogs advance by prevailing over a talented Strongsville team at Independence High School before a raucous crowd led by the energizing Olmsted Student section on a perfect evening for soccer.

In a gut-wrenching performance, the Bulldogs overcame a late goal by Strongsville when senior Micky Kasputis delivered the game tying goal off an assist by Joe Bement with 5:53 left after the Dogs failed to convert a PK with 10 minutes left in regulation.

The teams battled through the 1st OT in the golden goal format and seemed headed to PKs in the 2nd OT when Rylan Wikle found Robinson for the game winner.

Austin Mitchell grabbed his 9th playoff win with 7 saves and two sparkling game saving stops. The Bulldogs lost senior Joseph Linder during the game to a possible concussion and sophomore Noah Le stepped up in critical role to fill in for Linder. The Dogs adapted their formation for overtime and dominated possession and offensive pressure during the OT periods.

The Bulldogs defensive back line delivered another top-notch game with junior Chase Fernkorn paying close attention to All GCC forward Jarod Anderson. The Dogs calmly cleared out several dangerous through balls and made key blocks of potential Mustangs shots in the Falls defensive box. The long goal by the Mustangs was a perfectly placed shot and almost put Strongsville in the Regionals.

The first half was a battle of midfields with neither team gaining a distinct advantage. The game featured plenty of fouling and rough play. Micky Kasputis appeared to be fouled in Strongsville box early in the game for no call. Strongsville appeared to score a goal in 1st half but official ruled Mustangs interfered with Mitchell. Ryan Kolonick played his usual break neck game displaying hard charging runs into the Mustang box and almost beat the Mustang keeper to Falls goal kick at end of 1st half.

The 2nd half found Bulldogs on the attack to open the half but sputtered as period wore on. After the Mustangs scored the Bulldogs shifted into another gear and Ryan Kolonick drew a PK with a driving run into the box. The Mustang keeper stopped the PK and things looked good for the Mustangs. The Bulldogs upped the tempo and with 5:53 left Micky Kasputis tied up the game from Joe Bement.

The Dogs owned both OT periods with driving runs and breakaways. Kevin Lemin nearly converted a free kick from top the arc at 837 in 2nd OT. The Dogs turned back a Mustang counter and brought numbers into the Mustang end. Rylan Wikle found Cam Robinson in front of the net the senior delivered the Dogs to the Regionals with his goal.

Dogs now play Medina Bees in Regional Semi-Finals this Wednesday 7pm at Nordonia High School. Make plans to get out to support this special team. Join the Student Section and Bulldog Nation!
